Benefits of a Private Abdominal Aortic Ultrasound Scan

An abdominal aortic ultrasound is a safe, quick, and non-invasive way to assess the abdominal aorta and check for an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Early detection is important, as AAAs often develop slowly and without symptoms.

Choosing a private scan with MedMobile means you can be seen promptly, understand your results clearly, and take control of your health confidently.

With MedMobile you can expect:

  • Fast appointment availability with no waiting lists

  • Professional, NHS-trained sonographers

  • High-resolution imaging for accurate assessment

  • A clear verbal explanation of your results during your appointment

  • A written medical report, sent securely to you and/or your GP

  • A comfortable, calm clinical setting focused on dignity and reassurance

This scan can be used to screen for AAA, monitor an existing aneurysm, or provide peace of mind where risk factors are present.

Why Might I Need This Scan?

You may wish to consider an abdominal aortic scan if you:

  • Are male and over 65

  • Smoke or have smoked in the past

  • Have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease

  • Are overweight

  • Have a family history of AAA

  • Have been advised by a GP, cardiologist or vascular specialist

Most abdominal aortic aneurysms do not cause symptoms, which is why screening can be so important.

Occasionally, symptoms can include:

  • A pulsing feeling in the abdomen

  • Ongoing abdominal discomfort

  • Persistent lower back pain

A burst (ruptured) aneurysm is a medical emergency and can cause severe pain, dizziness, collapse, or shock.

What Happens During the Scan?

  • You will be asked to lie comfortably on the examination couch.

  • A small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to your abdomen.

  • A handheld probe is moved over the skin to assess the aorta.

  • The scan typically takes around 10–15 minutes and is painless.

  • Your sonographer will explain the findings immediately.

  • You will also receive a written report for your records or to share with your GP.
