Why do I need a Private Pelvic Ultrasound
A pelvic ultrasound has many applications depending on the reason for the investigation and is an important tool for detecting and monitoring medical conditions related to the female reproductive organs including the womb and ovaries and can help in the diagnosis and management of a range of health issues.
Ultrasound assessment of the pelvis may be used to investigate the following;
Size, shape and position of the uterus and ovaries
Presence of diseases such as fibroids and cysts
Presence of fluids or masses in the uterus, endometrium, myometrium (uterine muscle tissue), ovaries, fallopian tubes and pelvic area.
Length and thickness of the cervix
Blood flow
A pelvic ultrasound can provide substantial information about a pelvic mass including size, location and structure. However, it cannot provide a definite cancer diagnosis.
The ultrasound plays a crucial role in diagnosing and assisting in the treatment of various conditions, including;
Abnormalities in the structure of the uterus and endometrial conditions
Fibroids, cysts, masses and other types of tumours within the pelvis
The position and presence of an Intrauterine Contraceptive Device (IUD)
Infections like Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
Monitoring of the ovarian follicle size for infertility evaluation
Postmenopausal bleeding
Reassurance and peace of mind
General gynaecology check-up
Screening for ovarian cancer
Signs of adenomyosis
