Well Woman Health Scan FAQs

  1. What is included in a Well Woman Health Scan?
It’s a focused ultrasound-based health check tailored to women’s common concerns, typically including pelvic assessment and relevant abdominal/urinary tract views depending on your package.

  2. Is this scan suitable if I have symptoms?
Yes — but if you have significant symptoms (e.g., heavy bleeding, severe pain), a targeted diagnostic scan may be more appropriate. We can help you choose.

  3. Do I need a referral?
    No — you can self-refer.

  4. How do I prepare?
Preparation depends on what’s included (pelvic scans often need a full bladder; abdominal views may require fasting). We’ll give clear instructions at booking.

  5. How long does it take?
    Usually 20–30 minutes.

  6. Will you explain what you’re seeing?
Yes — we’ll talk you through the scan in real time and provide a clear written report.

  7. How quickly do I get the report?
Typically within 24 hours, delivered digitally.

What Happens During the Scan?

  • You will be made comfortable in a private clinical room.

  • A small amount of ultrasound gel is applied to the abdomen for the abdominal scan.

  • Your pelvic scan may be carried out transabdominally and/or transvaginally, depending on image clarity and your preference.

  • To assess bladder emptying, you may be asked to use the bathroom and return briefly for a re-scan.

  • The scan typically takes 15–25 minutes and is safe and painless.

  • Your sonographer will explain your results immediately, followed by a written report.

Your comfort and privacy remain central throughout.

How to Prepare

For the Abdominal Portion:

  • Avoid eating for around 6 hours before your appointment.

  • You may drink water or clear fluids.

  • Take all regular medication as usual unless advised otherwise.

For the Bladder/Pelvic Portion (Transabdominal):

  • Please arrive with a comfortably full bladder.

  • Drink about 0.5 litres of water approximately 30 minutes before your appointment.

  • Try not to empty your bladder before the scan.

For a Transvaginal Scan (if recommended or preferred):

  • You may be asked to empty your bladder beforehand.

Your sonographer will discuss the most suitable approach on the day.
